When dealing with your roof, water can be the root of many problems. It is highly important to see to it that you are always on the lookout whenever there are signs of a leaking roof before things even get worse.
A leaking roof may not seem dangerous but as you continue reading you’ll discover how it can ruin your home and put you and your family in serious jeopardy.
Before it reaches any other part of your household, the water coming from your leaking roof drips first on your attic and ceiling. This water leak will then cause the paint to change in color and the make the plaster to expand. Moreover, roof leaks can also damage the ventilation on your attic which makes it very inconvenient for the ones living in your home.
Water from your leaking roof may also drip along your home’s framing. What happens over time is that the water soaked wood rots and deteriorates, the roof sags and the foundation gets weakened. Even a minor roof leak can cause all these problems and more.
We all know that water doesn’t mix well with electricity. A leaking roof can potentially cause a short circuit which leads to an electrical fire. If there are metal junction boxes in the electrical wiring, water can come in contact with the uncovered wires in it. When water from the leaking roof reaches an open wiring, anyone who touches it could get an electric shock.
When water drips into your attic insulation, it gets clumped making it ineffective. This will most probably be reflected on your energy bill. If the warm air escapes through your attic, you will then have to increase the heat in order to manage your home’s temperature, especially in the winter.
Furthermore, molds will likely grow on your clumped insulation. Molds growth causes respiratory problems for you and your family.
