Different Types of Commercial Roofing

The Importance of Choosing the Right Commercial Roofing

If you are a commercial or industrial building owner looking to put up a new building or planning the replacement of an outdated roof of an existing one, choosing the right commercial roofing is one of the most daunting tasks you need to accomplish. With so many different types of commercial roofing available in the market, how can you know which one is the best for your specific building project?

Each commercial roof type is built according to the needs of the building and the budget of the owner. Choosing the right roofing material is important because the commercial roof plays an integral part in the overall health of the building and the lifespan of the roof itself.

To help you out in the selection process, here are the different types of commercial roofing and their features.

Types of Commercial Roofing

1.Metal Roofing

Metal Roofing is one of the most popular commercial roof type choices in Arizona because there are many different kinds available for use in a roofing system such as copper, aluminum, metal tile sheets, corrugated galvanized steel, stainless steel, stone-coated steel and more. Besides having an attractive look and helping create a sustainable design for your building, metal roofs are known for their strong fire resistance. Metal roofs are also more durable and stronger than traditional commercial roofing types.

2. Single Ply Roofing

Single ply roofing is an increasingly popular flat roof covering that is designed to be installed in one layer. This type of roofing exhibits great flexibility and is UV radiation-resistant. There are two types of single-ply membranes:

Thermosets – compounded from synthetic rubber polymers and are ideal for large roof areas.

Thermoplastics – usually manufactured to include polyester or fiberglass that gives additional strength. Most commonly used are PVC and TPO which are plastic-based materials.

3. Shingle Roofing

Shingle roofing is another popular option for commercial roofing because shingles combine secure anchoring (which is great for steep roofs). Shingle roofs also have a wide selection of colors, textures and shapes to match a building’s architectural style.

4. Spray Polyurethane Foam Roofing

SPF or Spray Polyurethane Foam roofing is an excellent choice for areas with extreme weather conditions like Arizona. Often referred to as “self flashing”, when applied properly, it forms a seamless monolithic barrier. This unique roof type helps reduce ponding and leakage and eliminates the need for counter flashing. SPF provides long-term quality and can last between 30 to 50 years.
